Black Mountain: In the Future

There are a few really cool things about this album, but the unfocused songwriting and female warble on vocals take it down a notch. The retro-keyboard sound and a strong drum performnce keep this album afloat, but it simply does not live up to the great media-created expectations. The extended jams on this cd are boring and unfocused, and while the female vocals serve well as backups, when she is allowed to sing lead, it falls somewhere in between Grace Slick (the good) and a wounded animal (the bad). This would have been a better record if the male lead sang the entire thing. Read more
