Mr. Wolf has created a pop gem with this latest album. The combination of familiar forms with abstract sound create a beautiful record and one that will last longer than this year. I wont go into comparisons, because he sounds like no one else, but he pushes the boundaries of pop music like Bjork and it provides great results. Read more

On their second album, Fairyland improves on their unique mix of Symphonic and Speed Metal, showcasing a collection of tracks that are epic, arresting, and discerning. Swift as arrows, guitar riffs duel with virtuoso keyboards, while monumental string arrangements and heroic choirs add the powerful yet melodic finishing touch. A must-have for fans of Blind Guardian and Rhapsody, though the members of Fairyland undoubtedly follow their own musical path. Read more

Last year, Band of Horses released a truly impressive debut album “Everything All the time”, containing several instantly classic songs like “The Funeral” and “The Great Salt Lake”. Despite pretty much non-stop touring since them the guys are back already with a new album. Read more

Hayden is a remarkable musician. I stumbled across the gorgeous “Dynamite Walls” on my new Dell computer. It has to be one of the most enveloping songs I’ve heard and I Loved it! Then I went and got the CD and was again stunned by the simplicity and beauty of the music. It was nice to hear the country tinges, as I am a country fan, among every other genre. I am surprised and happy that I found Hayden’s talent and I can’t wait to discover more! Read more

The follow-up to their “Now-Again/Stones Throw” album is a heavyweight dynamic soundtrack inspired hip-hop effort. While their debut was instrumental, this one is the opposite, featuring a marquee-filling list of quality MCs such as Big Daddy Kane, Percee P, Wildchild from the Lootpack, Ohmega Watts, Soup from Jurassic 5, Blood Of Abraham, Mykah 9 from the Freestyle Fellowship and Project Blowed, plus vocalist Aloe Blacc. This double CD contains one vocal disc and one instrumental disc. Read more

There are other good songs on here too, like “Escape” and “Same Direction”. But there are a few missteps as well. I don’t think I would have cried if “From the Heart” wasn’t on here, and “Out of Control” is just that (sorry, I tried my best to like that song). But this is still a great album from Hoobastank. Like their first album, this album also gets four stars, so pick them both up if you’re a fan. Read more

Produced by Rusty Santos, the New York mixer behind Animal Collective and Panda Bear’s albums, Red, Yellow & Blue exemplifies the Ruffians’ brand of self-described ‘hootin and hollarin’. From start to finish it’s a good time, and the band knows it. With songs like the jangly ”Hedonistic Me” and the sugary sweet ”Foxes Mate for Life” to the foot stomping ”Badonkadonkey”, the band constantly pushes the boundaries of musical arrangements. My favorite tracks though are the the 2 original Hawaiian themed songs by Mark Keali’i Ho’omalu. They hit on just the right combination of authenticity and pop. They’re sure to become staples of luao parties across the country. I’d love to hear a whole album of material like this! Read more

Combine the smoky cellars of a Weimar-era cabaret with the rock n’ roll fury of Joan Jett, PJ Harvey and The Violent Femmes and you have a remote idea of what to expect when experiencing The Dresden Dolls. Read more

2008 release, the Canadian’s first album in four years. Hayden rose from the lakes of Ontario in the late ’90s and was immediately hailed as ‘the new Beck’. While Hayden’s music is much more akin to Ontario’s other favorite son, Neil Young, he has been known to cut and paste like Mr. Hansen. In Field & Town features 11 top quality songs that perfectly match his deep infectious voice and toe-tapping Folk tunes. Hardwood. –This text refers to the Audio CD edition. Read more

I could carry on at length about my favorites (”Unknown Legend,” “War of Man,” and “You and Me,”) but I won’t try to describe them. I’ll just say that anyone who loved _Harvest_ will probably love this one even more. Read more
